As we enter into the season of Advent, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church is offering Taizé Services on Thursday evenings: December 7, 14 and 21 at 7:00 PM. Taizé originated in France by Brother Roger Schulz. Taizé is a candlelight service with a series of meditative chants and contemplative prayer. Gather in the sanctuary for a time of peace and quiet in the midst of the hectic holiday season as we watch and wait for the birth of Jesus. The church is located at  51 W. Main Street, Newville. The Christian School of Grace Baptist Church celebrates 50 years! The public is invited to a Christmas Program and commemoration of 50 years on Friday December 15 at 6:00 PM. Alumni, former teachers, board members and headmasters are all invited to the program which will be followed by a reception with cookies and punch. No time to shop of bake, no problem! Support youth mission trips at the annual Cookie Walk for delicious homemade cookies and shop for a cause at the Marketplace of Miracles on Saturday December 16th from 10 AM to 1 PM at First United Methodist Church, 135 E. CROSSFIRE Singles Ministry will hold a Christmas Dance for Christian singles along with a Used Book Sale on Saturday, December 16 from 7:00-10:00 PM at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Louther Street, Carlisle. Cost for the dance is $10 per person cash at the door, plus a Christmas treat or beverage to share. No alcohol permitted. The musical elf for the evening will be DJ Bob Yeingst. Don’t forget to stop by the Used Book Sale. Re-Creation will present their Christmas musical titled “Believe…The Christmas Suite” on Saturday December 16, 7:00 PM at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 647 Forge Road, Carlisle.  The program captures the excitement of the season with traditional hymns and classic carols. In this hilarious Christmas classic, a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids, probably the most inventively awful kids in history! You won't believe the mayhem - and fun - when the Herdmans collide with the Christmas story head on! Presented by West Shore Baptist Church on Saturday, December 16, at 6 PM and again on Sunday December 17, at 10:30 AM, it's sure to be a fun event for the whole family. The Tressler Memorial Free Lutheran Church in Loysville presents "King Forever" on Sunday, December 17th at 7:00 PM.  Admission is free however an offering will be taken. Refreshments will be served after the concert.  Tressler Memorial is located at 3581 Shermans Valley Road, Loysville.  Enjoy an evening filled with the holiday spirit and sounds of the season.

Carlisle Truck Stop Ministry is asking local residents to bake Christmas cookies for their 2017 Christmas Cookie Collection.  Place 6 to 10 cookies in a plastic zip-lock bag and then into a paper lunch bag which can be decorated.  Folks are encouraged to enclose a friendly note, Bible verse or tract.  Each bag needs to display your church information or the Truck Stop Ministry contact information.  Cookies can be dropped off on November 27th, December 4th, 11th or 18t between 10 AM and 12 Noon at the Ministry's trailer located at the Iron Skillet Restaurant parking lot at 1201 Harrisburg Pike in Carlisle.  That's on U.S. Route 11, between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate 81.  For more information contact Dave Bell at 717-776-7191.
Farmers, make your farm finances work for you by attending Penn State Extension’s Farm Sense course. This four-session farm financial management course teaches key skills for agricultural producers interested in better understanding financial statements. Participants will receive hands-on training in custom financial statements, cash flow budgets, balance sheets, and income statements.  Learn to calculate key ratios to make informed decisions and set production goals for the farm operation, strengthening the overall business and improving relationships with business partners. All agricultural operations, including livestock, dairy, horticulture and diversified, multiple enterprise farms, can benefit from Farm$en$e.
This program satisfies both the production and financial training requirements for USDA Farm Service Agency Borrowers. Additionally, completion of the course provides four SmartStart credits from AgChoice Farm Credit. 
The class will be held on Thursdays, January 18, and 25, and February 1, and 8, 2018, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Shady Maple Smorgasbord, 129 Toddy Drive, East Earl, PA 17519. One registration fee of $295.00 provides one or two individuals per farm with personalized assistance from instructors, course text book and materials, and lunch for all four days.
