Singer songwriter Mathew Smith will be in concert with a full band on Wednesday October 18 at 7:30 PM at Liberti Church, 515 32nd Street, Camp Hill. Mathew writes new music to centuries old hymn texts and his latest album is entitled Quiet Hymns. Prior to the concert Mathew will give a seminar on hymns at 5:30 PM. The Mediterranean lifestyle and way of eating can be beneficial for the general population, as well as for those with type 2 diabetes. The Penn State Extension office is offering four weekly sessions on how to implement the Mediterranean lifestyle right here in Central Pennsylvania, using foods available to us that are fresh and local! Classes run Thursdays, 5:00 to 7:30 PM on: Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 at the Cumberland County Service Center at 310 Allen Road, Carlisle. The registration fee of $80 includes the four sessions, recipe and lifestyle book, handouts, and food supplies for food tastings. You may register for the classes by contacting the Extension Office at 717-240-6500.

A concert featuring the group “Keepin' It Simple” will be held on Saturday, October 21st at the Carlisle First Church of the Brethren, from 6:30-8:00 PM.  The group plays acoustic country and southern gospel styles of music.  A free will offering will be taken and the concert will be followed by dessert.   Carlisle First Church of the Brethren is located at 1340 Forge Road, Carlisle.

Sewin' Sisters Sowing is holding their annual "Sew Much for Charity and Free Fabric Event" on Saturday, October 21 from 10 AM to 2 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 210 Main Street, Hummelstown. A free light lunch will be served. This is a networking event for those who crochet, knit, or sew for charity. For more information call Marcellene Currens at 717-561-9964.

“Remington Ryde” will be in concert at Young’s United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 22 at 7:00 PM. Refreshments will be provided in the fellowship hall after the performance. Penn State Master Gardener, presents “Small is Beautiful – Minor Bulbs” on Tuesday, October 24, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, at the Cleve J. Fredricksen Library, located at 100 N. 19th Street, Camp Hill. Learn about the wonderful variety of small hardy flowering bulbs. Registration fee for the workshop is $5.00, and is requested by October 17th.  A door prize of a Penn State Extension Master Gardener Manual, a $75.00 value, will be awarded on October 24 to one lucky winner. Enjoy a night of music and celebration as local church groups come together to perform in a display of unity at The Swartz Auditorium on the grounds of Carlisle High School on Thursday October 26, from 7:30-9:00 o’clock PM. Newville First Church of God is holding their 9th Annual Trunk or Treat Festival on Thursday October 26 from 6 PM to 8 PM. Children will have the opportunity to travel from one parked car to another in a traffic free parking lot.  Come with or without a costume. No gore please. “Not Ashamed”, is the theme for the 2017 “Everyday Hero” Men's Conference set to take place at Victory Christian Fellowship on Friday October 27th from 6-9 PM and Saturday October 28th from 8:30-12 PM. Guest speakers are Pastor Doug Pyszka and international speaker and author and evangelist John Merola. Cost to attend the conference which also includes food, is $60. The public is invited to attend the 7th Annual Hallelujah Party at Idaville United Brethren Church on Saturday October 28 from 3:00-6:00 PM.  Come out rain or shine for free food such as: pulled pork, hot dogs, popcorn, desserts and much more. The party will offer an inflatable obstacle course, bounce house, hayride, carnival style games, entertainment, and door prizes. Fun for all ages! Pennsylvania State Sunday School Association is having their annual convention on Saturday, October 28 at Plainfield First Church of God, 2089 Newville Road, Carlisle. Featured speaker will be Pastor Bob Bishard, State President of the Sunday School Association. Participants may attend any of the 25 different workshops available throughout the day. Crossfire Singles Ministry is having a costume dance on Saturday October 28 from 7:00-10:00 PM in Lititz, Lancaster County. Dance to “Cavern Club” a Beatles tribute band. Golden Lights, a senior adult ministry at Middlesex United Methodist Church, Carlisle will serve a home cooked lunch promptly at 12 noon and present a program on eye care for seniors.  Guest speaker will be Jane Palmer of Pennsylvania Retina Specialists, PC. She will be explaining why eye care is so very important, the testing that should be completed as seniors age, and common age related eye problems. Reservations are now being accepted for WPFG’s Fall Dinner Banquet featuring Daystar Vocal. This year’s banquet will be held on Friday November 3 at Carlisle Alliance Church at 6:00 PM. Doors open at 5:30 PM.  The dinner menu includes turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, green beans, vegetable medley, fruits, desserts, and drinks.  Admission to the banquet is free however an offering will be taken to cover the cost of the dinner and to support WPFG. Reservations must be made no later than October 21. Penn State Master Gardeners in Cumberland County are hosting a “Wildlife Tree Ornaments” workshop for youth on Saturday, November 18, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the Cumberland County Extension office, 310 Allen Road, Carlisle. Recommended ages for this activity are 5 to 13, and a parent or guardian must remain with their child during the event. Come any time during the workshop hours, and make one or all of the ornaments offered. Workshop fee is $5.00 per child. You may register and pay at the door on the day of the event.
