Cumberland Valley Christian Radio (CVCR)

History

1st Quarter 2000 — Cumberland Valley Christian Radio, (CVCR) Incorporation was completed.

2nd Quarter 2000 — Federal Communications Commission (FCC) placed a one year moratorium on new applications for non-commercial channels in the FM band.

7 year 7 months length of moratorium — During this period of time CVCR prepared to submit its application when FCC lifted moratorium. CVCR became a 501(c)(3) organization.

October 2008 — The FCC opened a short window of time for submission of new application for non-commercial channels in the FM band.

October 2008 — CVCR and FCC legal counsel completed and submitted an application for 91.3 FM in the Cumberland Valley.

October 2008 — The FCC accepted CVCR application for 91.3 FM in the Cumberland Valley.

April 2009 — The FCC provided CVCR with a construction permit to create a full service radio station on a frequency of 91.3 FM broadcasting from Wagonners Gap to an area covering a large portion of Cumberland and Perry counties. See Coverage Map.

April 2009 — CVCR submitted a request for WPFG 91.3 FM call sign to FCC.

April 2009 to October 2010 — CVCR started fund raising. $150,000 capital was needed to purchase and establish the radio station, $75,000 of which had been raised at that time. The studio and tower site engineering was completed. The tower was ordered and delivered.

November 2010 to July 2011 — CVCR rented a tower location and developed the property by installing the new tower,  antennas and transmitter equipment. The transmission site was completed in late July.

August to October 2011 —  CVCR entered into negotiations for a studio location just outside of Carlisle. Additionally, studio equipment was purchased and was being configured by Nelson Frey, our Chief Engineer. Equipment was preassembled and tested at Nelson Frey's home, and made ready for quick installation in the new studio.

November to December 2011 — The application was submitted to FCC for license On-Air testing. The studio negotiations, variance approval, and contract were finalized.

January 2012 — The FCC had questions about WPFG 91.3 FM on-air application test documents, which caused review and reengineering to be done by our contracted engineering group.

May 19, 2012 — WPFG 91.3 FM went on-air. With Praise For God!

May 19, 2013 — WPFG 91.3 FM's First year anniversity on-air. With Praise For God!

December 29, 2013 — WPFG 91.3 FM's First live broadcast by WPFG Chaplain and Couriers singer Dave Kyllonen at the Couriers' last concert.

 October 15, 2015 — Shermans Dale, PA Translator W226AS went on-air.

 January, 2016 — Live Streaming over the Internet begins for WPFG 91.3 FM and W226 as 93.1 FM.
